Basic Chords
The page shows diagrams for the basic chords used on guitar. These chords are the suitable for beginning guitar players and should be thought of as an essential core of material that the beginning guitar should try to master.
Major chords
This first group are major chords

This second group are minor chords

Dominant 7th chords
This third group are Dominant 7th chords, commonly labeled with simply the number 7 (i.e. A7)

Minor 7th chords
This fifth group are Minor 7th chords, commonly labeled with min7, mi7 or m7 (i.e. Am7)
Beginning Barre chords
This sixth group are some of the first barre chords to learn. The first finger lays across the strings to fret more than one string at the same fret (this is the 'barre' technique). The other fingers fret the remaining notes in the normal manner (using the fingertip)
